What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I enjoyed making a librarian trading card. The flicr photo storage is useful too. The main thing is to learn new things and open our eyes to the many different ways to use different software so we can help the public and have some fun ourselves along the way.
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
We must change and embrace learning or we will stagnate. It exercises our brain taking on these challenges. On the other side of the coin sometimes I do feel overwhelmed by all this technology. I do regularly use facebook, youtube, myspace and podcasts so I'm not completely adverse to the technology but I can also see where some patrons are coming from when they need help using a mouse.

Take a look at the downloadable audio book titles available on World eBook Fair site. This site has lots of free audio for listening to online or simply download to an ipod or computer. I listened to one online and it was very fast to download and clear to hear. It's a great idea and I have already had patrons ask about this concept showing that there is a need for us to know about it.

Through Podcast Alley I found in the top ten a film review podcast and subscribed via my bloglines account. I used to have an ipod to which I updated my podcasts to whenever I connect it to the net. Podcasts would be good for library users to listen to a blog type posting of library events and book reviews etc.

I chose the social networking application, facebook. It's cheating a bit as I use it everyday but only started fairly recently! I can't remember why I started but everyone I seem to meet socially is on it so it's a great networking tool. Another benefit is storage of my photos, looking at my friends pics, messaging friends, games with friends etc. In the library it's useful to learn any online apps as customer service requires us to help customers and we often are joining them up for emails..etc. I enjoyed looking through the list of awards and saw some I already use eg, myspace, biblio, google maps.

Online Word - Great Idea

The integration aspect of web based applications is very appealing. Often customers come in with documents on old versions of word which can't be opened on our computers. I found Zoho writer very easy to use and put on my blogg. See above.

Wikis are a more flexible alternative approach to web page building. No knowledge of HTML is needed and anyone change edit the page. Wikipedia is the most well known.
I looked at book lovers wiki. There didn't seem to be a lot of reviews..maybe it's a new wiki. But I can see the great scope for this and reduction in the duplication of work across library's and the world.

Rick Anderson's article, 'Away from the icebergs', is an interesting article on change, the way libraries deliver services at the moment and the future directions they should be heading to cope with new technologies.
To me Library 2.0 means being flexible to change and embracing new technologies for ourselves and our users.

Tags working with blogs...I've joined technorati to increase my blog's visibility. I've made a watchlist so any new blogs or posts in my subject searchs will automatically come up. This is a bit like a feature of some databases. I looked at a few blogs through my searching of tags and also browsed at some favourites. Boing Boin is a funny blog showing cultural curiosities.

Well I feel very overloaded with information. I've added some rss and newsfeeds. Cartoons, library and horses of course! I left some comments on my fellow workmates blogs but have to subscribe to them. It's friday avo, last day of the school holidays, suffice to say I'm off!

Well I must say technology does make routinue tasks in the library a lot quicker but when all else fails it's funny how we end up straight back to doing things the old way. Technology in my job as a librarian has opened up huge range of information for the public to access from computers everywhere. The world is becoming smaller and information is more accessible for all, which is great. The hard bit for users is not becoming lost and finding 'good' information which is where us librarians come in.

Well week 3 has come upon us. I already had a flickr account so just logged in and had a play with tags and groups - I found an eventing group and could spend hours looking at the lovely horsey pics but ....work calls unfort.. I usually save most of my photos to my facebook account as it offers other features besides photo storage, eg. messaging friends and storing movies. I'm not sure if flickr can store movies?? maybe someone can answer that? I can see that flickr is great to network and do other things with your pics like postage stamps. The National Library has a huge job ahead of them with archiving digital world!
